Privacy Policy

German by Example (“we”, “us”, “the app”) helps you learn German from real example sentences. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over your data. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app — we don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising trackers.

1. Who we are

German by Example is an iOS language-learning app backed by our own server. For any privacy question, contact us at privacy@wasit.io.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you create a profile we collect the details you provide:

• Your email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash).
• Your display name, chosen interface language (English, Arabic or French) and current German level.

Learning data

To save your progress and sync it across your devices, we store:

• Lessons completed, your streak, saved/reviewed words and quiz attempts and scores.

Anonymous usage & diagnostics

• Analytics: basic in-app events (e.g. “lesson opened”) tied to a random, anonymous per-install identifier — not your account and not an advertising ID — so we can understand which features are used and fix problems.
• Crash reports: if the app crashes, we record lightweight technical details (such as the error and where it happened) to make the app more stable. We do not use third-party crash SDKs.

3. Permissions we request

• Microphone — only when you tap record in a pronunciation activity, to capture your voice locally (see above).
• Notifications — optional. If you enable the daily reminder, it is scheduled locally on your device; your reminder time is stored on-device.

4. How we use your information

• Provide the core service: deliver lessons, save progress and sync your account across devices.
• Keep your account secure and let you sign back in on any device.
• Understand aggregate usage and improve and stabilise the app.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

5. How we share information

We don't sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers that host and run the app on our behalf (for example, our server and hosting infrastructure), and only as needed to operate the service, or where required by law.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and learning data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your account, progress, streak and saved words. Anonymous, aggregated analytics may be retained separately as it isn't linked to you.

7. Your rights and choices

• Access & update: view and edit your profile details in the app.
• Delete: delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account, which permanently removes your data as described above.
• Notifications: turn the daily reminder on or off in the app or in iOS Settings.
• Depending on your region (e.g. EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have additional rights to access, correct, export or erase your data — contact us to exercise them.

8. Children's privacy

German by Example is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Data security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and passwords are stored only as secure hashes. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

10. International transfers

Your data may be processed on servers located in other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
